Item Description
Delightful!! This enchanting butterfly brooch features incredibly intricate whorls of gold vermeil and sterling silver to give this butterfly's wings their delicate look. Wings have marcasite chip accents that glimmer in the light. The icing on the cake with this piece is that the wings are articulated. Each of the four wing pieces are individually movable to create a wide variety of positions, from resting to flight. Butterfly's face is accented with marcasite chip eyes.
This piece is created by renowned American costume jewelry designer, Alice Caviness, who began her work in New York just after the Second World War. Her pieces are harder to find on the market as she didn't produce as much as some other designers in her era. Back of pin bears Sterling Germany mark and the Alice Caviness makers mark.
Details: Vintage brooch is in excellent condition, no missing stones, and wings fully functional. Measures 2 1/2" wide from wing tip to wing tip x 1 1/2" long.
