Item Description
The Monarch Butterfly is a much beloved and easily identified pollinator. Naturalists, both professional and backyard, are fascinated by the Monarch's life cycle and multi-generational migration. Unfortunately, its population has dropped dramatically in recent years to the point of being considered for the endangered species list. Habitat loss and climate change are only a few of the culprits for this loss. Fortunately both scientists and concerned citizens are now looking for ways to assist with monarch conservation.
"Monarch Butterfly on Liatris", by local photographer Harold Sandford, is a vibrant closeup of this familiar butterfly. Liatris, or Blazingstar, is a native perennial blooming in late summer and early fall. Liatris atttracts many insects and birds, and is a particular favorite of the Monarch Butterfly.
Details: 8" x 12" photo print matted to 11" x 14".
