2016 LA GROLA IGT

APPELLATION
VeroneseI.G.T.

VARIETAL CONTENT: 90% Corvina Veronese, 10% Oseleta

TASTINGNOTES
The 2016 La Grola IGT is the result of the extraordinary harmony between the ideal growing conditions on the famed La Grola hill and two of the Valpolicella’s indigenous grapes, Corvina Veronese and Oseleta. A deep ruby red, La Grola has a rich, perfumed bouquet and graceful, well-textured palate. Full-bodied with fine-grained tannins, the wine offers notes of wild berries, black cherry and plum, enhanced by hints of dusty bramble, cedar, and spice. Intense yet finessed, the wine is grown on terraces with high plant density; the resulting low yields add to La Grola’s distinctive concentration and depth. Age for a decade or more.

VINTAGENOTES
The 2016 growing season began on a worrying note but turned into an excellent vintage. Wet weather through May required special attention in the vineyards but by mid-June the temperatures and rainfall returned to normal, allowing the steady development of flavors and structure in the grapes. Ideal day-to-night temperature swings contributed enormously to the quality and complexity of the fruit. 2016 promises to be a memorable vintage, with wines of personality, intense flavors and aromas and great balance.

WINEMAKING
Grapes were handpicked, then destemmed and soft crushed. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at temperatures ranging from 68°F to 82°F for about 15days, with daily pumpovers. The wine was aged in oak for 16 months, then blended for two months followed by 10 months of bottleaging.
