Item Description

Women in American Life was funded by the Department of Education.  Producing it took our entire staff and Peggy Sargent, a very important volunteer.  Mary Ruthsdotter, our Project Director, and Bonnie Eisenberg, our Marketing Director traveled throughout the United States with very heavy and clucky camera equipment to photograph archival collections that existed in important library collections. (Gathering and photographing these archives predated the Internet and all the serves that are now provided.)

We had not come close to budgeting enough revenue for what became a two-year project and Mary and Bonnie spent a lot of time on our supporters' couches and whenever possible in their spare bedrooms.  It was a labor of love and would become a- one-of-a-kind production in telling the story of American women from a multicultural perspective.

As Mary and Bonnie traveled, Susan Otteman the ED Assistant, cataloged and verified all the images.  With guidance and input from our Advisory Board of women historians, Mary, Bonnie, and Molly MacGregor, the ED, worked on revising the script, which Molly finally narrated.

All of this was made possible with the great oversight of Peggy Sargent, a new volunteer whose previous work was in video production and whose husband worked at a state-of-the-art video production company.

This is one of the many times that the Universe intervened to make our work possible.  For which we are always grateful
