Michael De Feo. Untitled (Kristen Stewart by Jean-Baptiste Mondino for Chanel, Spring, 2020), 2020. Acrylic on magazine page. 11.75 x 8.875 inches
Michael De Feo is a New York based artist widely known for his flower inspired paintings that explore themes of ephemerality, growth, and the cycle of life. De Feo's penchant for flowers has earned him the nickname, "The Flower Guy."
De Feo often adds his floral treatments and cascades of multicolored petals to existing printed images from the fashion world as well as art history, which both subverts and celebrates the underlying images.
Michael's work has been exhibited in museums and galleries including The New Museum of Contemporary Art, NY; MASS MoCa, North Adams, MA; The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, CT; Danziger Gallery, NY; Rice Gallery, Houston, TX, and numerous others. His art has been featured in The New York Times, VOGUE, New York Magazine, The London Sunday Times Magazine, and countless others.
De Feo is presently collaborating with legendary French perfumer, Guerlain, by creating unique paintings that reinvent the look and feel of their flower-focused, Aqua Allegoria line of fragrances.
Michael's monograph, Flowers, was published by Abrams Books in 2019. This hardcover book documents his flower project from its genesis as a New York City street art project in 1993 up and through his various studio paintings and projects.
