Item Description

Our buddy Magnus is living large and loving life! He’s got the gift of gab and loves to chat with his friends with a little help of a human hand to make his mouth move. Magnus usually makes his home with the Austin bat colony that lives in Bracken Cave, which is the largest urban bat colony in the world. However, Magnus is looking to find himself a new home with a few loving humans to look after him and keep him well snuggled. If you ever want to see Magnus’ bat colony friends just hang out near the Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin around sunset. Truly an awe inspiring sight!

Bat

Bats are the only mammals that truly fly. Most bats fly at night and sleep – upside down – during the day. There are may different kinds of bats, and they live almost everywhere in the world. Some are big, eat fruit, and have good eyesight to look for food. Others are small, eat insects and have keen hearing to listen for food. They find their way around by making high-pitched noises which bounce off objects and back to the bats’ sensitive ears. Bat mothers choose warm places for their small babies to grow. Bat fathers go away so they do not eat up all the food near the mothers. Many people are afraid of bats. But bats do not attack people. In fact, bats are very intelligent and can be trained to do tricks. But they would rather be left alone. Written by Lynn Selzer
