Item Description
The first time our intelligence team spotted Phoolkali, she looked like she was going to collapse. On closer observation it was evident that she was being both badly mistreated and neglected. Phoolkali is a very gentle elephant and was rescued from Agra in May 2012. She is approximately 53 years old and is blind in the right eye. She has now recovered, loves eating fruits, throwing mud on herself, and hanging out with fellow-rescued elephant Maya.
About the photographer:
Himanshuu Chandrakant Sheth visited our sanctuary in 2017 to capture many of the amazing photos in our collection.
"Love for photographing the great outdoors - nature, wildlife, people, cultures and spaces - has inspired me to embark on a journey, creating detailed customised photo safaris. I have traveled extensively in India & abroad, almost exclusively with my camera. My years of travel have helped me gather a wealth of knowledge and experience. My own little eccentricities have also fuelled my learning."
