Artist Bio

Ray Hassard was born in Freeport, New York and grew up in the New York City area. He studied at Pratt Institute. He moved to Buffalo, New York in 1977 where he won several commissions, most notably one to create and install a large wall piece for the subway the city was building. He and his husband moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1985.

Hassard is a Signature member of the Cincinnati Art Club, National Oil & Acrylic Painters' Society, and the Pastel Society of America. He is a charter member of the Ohio Plein Air Society. In 2019 he was named Eminent Pastellist by the IAPS - International Association of Pastel Societies..

He was featured in Plein Air Magazine (August 2020) and in Pastel Journal in the December 2020 issue in an article he wrote on plein air painting around Cincinnati. Hassard has been included in the Taft Museum of Art's program Artists Reaching Classrooms in Cincinnati for over 5 years.

For the past 10 years, he has participated in many plein air competitions around the country and won top awards at San Angelo, Texas, Richmond, Virginia, and New Harmony, Indiana. He is represented by: Cincinnati Art Galleries, Cincinnati and Oxford Gallery n Rochester, New York.

Hassard's work is included in many private collections as well as the Richmond Indiana Art Museum, McCullogh-Hyde Hospital, Bethesda North Hospital, and Christ Church Cathedral, Cincinnati.
