Artist Bio

Susan Waguespack Knowlton is a fine artist specializing in acrylic and watercolor paintings. Born and raised in Covington, Louisiana, she had an early interest in art and took art lessons as a child and teen with local artists in her hometown.

She received her B.A. in Fine Art and Elementary Education at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, completed course work in art at Louisiana State University and University of New Orleans, and has taken workshops with current artists such as David Kessler, Don Andrews, and Judi Betts. Her commissioned work hangs in many private collections, and she enjoys the process of bringing a client’s ideas to life.

Knowlton's paintings are inspired by the world around her and reflect her southern upbringing, as well as her experiences living and traveling abroad. In addition to the time spent living in Louisiana, Texas, and Florida, she has lived overseas in Venezuela, Australia, and Singapore and has had the opportunity to travel extensively through Southeast Asia, Europe, and South America. Her paintings are an artistic response to the beauty in nature and the richly varied places she has called home. Knowlton loves painting the Louisiana swamp with egrets as much as she enjoys painting a scene she encountered in Hanoi, Vietnam or a vineyard she walked through in Tuscany. She enjoys painting both en plein air and in her studio.

Knowlton and her recently retired husband, John, relocated to Gulf Breeze, Florida in late 2019. She is a member of the Plein Air Painters of Pensacola, Pensacola Figure drawing group, Quayside Art Gallery, and Artel Gallery. She looks forward to sharing her art with her new community and beyond.
