Item Description

From Chartres to the cathedral of Florence, this volume covers the major Romanesque and Gothic cathedrals in France, England, Germany, Italy and Spain. Over 300 photographs showing the cathedrals inside and out, including close-up architectural and sculptural details and an authoritative text, combine to produce a survey of these buildings.

This Folio Society collectors' edition binding of the Schutz photographic masterpiece is one of the most superbly executed photo books on gothic cathedrals available today--though it is extremely rare on the market.  It is enclosed in a full slipcover, complete with an edge-to-edge front photograph of the Cologne Cathedral (inside, upper choir), has leathre end binding and a bveautiful photographic inlay on both the front and back volume covers.

The volume is massive, with gorgeous prefessional photography reproduced in the highest quality with splendid detail and high gloss, heavy weight paper.

Printed and bound in Italy.

Like new: still plastic-wrapped, with slip case.

Published 2009.  472 pages.  13-1/2 x 11 x 4-7/8"  Hardback
