THE OVERSTORY (WINNER OF 2019 PULITZER PRIZE FOR FICTION)
by POWERS RICHARD

A must-read for tree lovers.

From the jacket:
An artist inherits a hundred years of photographic portraits, all of the same doomed American Chestnut Tree. A hard-partying under-graduate in the late 1980s electrocutes herself, dies, and is sent back into life byt creatures of air and light. A hearing and speech impaired scientist discovers that trees are communicating with one another. An Air Force loadmaster in the Vietnam War is shiot out of the sky, then saved by falling into a Banyan.

This is the story of these and five other perfect strangers, each summoned in different ways  by the natural world, who are brought together in a last stand to save it from catastrophe.

Reviews from Amazon:
This exquisite mix of ecology, legend, and social interaction of both humans and plants is perfect to read aloud to kids, or to read alone in short staccato bursts, or to share with a friend. Or better still, all three, multiple times. The end pages kind of gallop to a finish in a kind of impatient tying up of loose ends, but only because the real story is not in the pages of this book, but outside where the green world hopes. This book points to the answers to many existential questions. -Bec Vandyk

A must read for anyone who loves a good story AND cares about the forests and the health of the earth. Beautifully written. Wonderful characters who you care about right from the beginner. It will be a classic. I hope the young read it! -Bee Ottinger

Possibly the most beautiful novel I have ever read.-languagelover
Beautiful prose, almost poetry. Profound message delivered by the flawed, frail characters. This story will stay with me forever. Magnificent. -Thomas M Burstyn
This was an amazing book. One of my all-time favorites and changed my view of the earth forever. Trees!
