Item Description

Here in the U.S., Italian wines are loved for its diversity of styles, protection of indigenous varieties, food-friendliness and, quite often, great value. This curated collection includes:

Pecchenino San Luigi Dolcetto di Dogliani 2012, Piedmont

Wine Enthusiast 90:

This lovely Dolcetto is delicious, fresh and utterly drinkable. It has a classic fragrance of strawberry, cherry and licorice, all of which carry over to the palate, along with earthy notes and a hint of almond. Made to be enjoyed young, this pairs perfectly with pasta dishes and pizza.

Cavallotto Langhe Nebbiolo 2014, Piedmont

Wine Advocate 90:

The 2014 Langhe Nebbiolo was born in what Alfio Cavallotto says was a problematic vintage with severe hail and rain storms. Because this estate farms according to organic and biodynamic methods, it lost up to 65% of its production. In fact, Cavallotto will not produce Barolo in 2014. The best Nebbiolo fruit was directed to this wine instead. Their loss is our gain as this wine offers a very good quality to price ratio. Fruit was harvested very late (the last few days of October) and the wine shows dark cherry ripeness with good structure at the back. The finish is slightly sweet and the wine ages in large oak casks for 18 months. Best 2017-2021.

Tolaini Valdisanti 2015, Tuscany

Vinous 93:

The 2015 Valdisanti, Tolaini's Cabernet Sauvignon blend is a rich, full-bodied beauty. Dark cherry, plum, chocolate, cedar, menthol and tobacco all flesh out as this succulent, beautifully layered wine shows off its personality. Valdisanti is decidedly opulent and muscular, but all the elements fall into place so gracefully. Drink 2020-2030.

Tommaso Bussola Ca'del Laito Ripasso Valpolicella 2007, Veneto

Wine Spectator 91:

A sweet, smoky note runs alongside the black cherry, balsamic, soft raisin and espresso flavors, while tangy acidity and chewy tannins provide structure. Features a fragrant, herbal finish.

Livio Sassetti Sangiovese Montecucco La Querciolina 2013, Tuscany

Wine Spectator 89:

The cherry, licorice and spice flavors are displayed against a backdrop of sweet ripe fruit and edgy tannins. Plays out with a tobacco aftertaste. A tad dry, but has character.

Rocca Di Frassinello Le Sughere di Frassinello 2011, Maremma

Wine Advocate 90, Vinous 90:

The estate's 2011 Le Sughere di Frassinello shows lovely finesse and harmony. Plum and dark cherry notes meld into tobacco, incense and spices. A hint of orange peel adds exotic, floral overtones that are intriguing, while the finish is nicely focused and impeccable. Le Sughere is Sangioveto, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
