Home is an intimate inspiration. I think universally, there is a perpetual yearning for somewhere we are not--or what isn't yours—a nostalgia. In our earthly lives there is a deep sense of nostalgia for the place ahead of us—a place that we were made for. In all my work, and in this piece for Middleburg's Foxes on the Fence, there is always this underlying concept of joy in the moment and the place—and the wish to be in the perfect eternal home.

This Virginian land is a gracious land. I love how the roads gallop along the edges of the fields—every so often arched by gracious boughs of leaves—creating momentary shelter before bursting out into the sunshine of the wide-open fields. These memories and this land are precious building blocks for the journey still ahead, how I see the world around me—wherever life will take me, and beyond in an eternal home. Don't you think that the eternal home will look like this?

Lydia M.E. Schrader paints under the name Lydia Marie Elizabeth and grew up with a pencil and paint brush in her hand. She studied art and interior design in school and worked for an architect designing hospitality spaces just outside of New York City directly after graduating. Upon being married in 2015, Lydia decided to give up her autocad skills and began painting full time under her eponymous named brand. She usually works in watercolor or oil and produces collections for sale on her website throughout the year as well as booking a limited number of private and commercial clients for custom commissions. Lydia's artworks often feature a strong attention to detail and typically showcase interior and architectural elements
