Item Description

Creation Process: 7th grade's group art work referenced Aurora Robson's abstract sculptures fabricated of salvaged plastics. The student-sculptors saved, cleaned, cut, and molded, then wire-connected forms of clear plastic, certainly one of the most unloved yet entirely useful, wasteful yet economical, lightweight, unforgiving materials that there is.

Robson's work (also the amazing bottle cap sculptures of El Anatsui) remind us to look for ways to elevate the mundane; also, that nothing is necessarily garbage.

Most significantly, the sculpture is anchored on a block of wood donated by the famous Bay Area woodworker of international note, Ido Yoshimoto.

Now, our 7th grade is initiated into the practice of looking at refuse anew and in determining a new fate for what is left behind. May this lesson be of benefit to all who see or feel this sculpture. This piece can also be built upon.

Additional details: 36in x 12in suspendable sculpture made from reused plastic refuse with a base of painted redwood burl.

Credits and thank yous to Paris Morgan, Kathy Piscioneri, Mo Poxon, Coleen Byrne, Charmaine Ho, and Ido Yoshimoto.
