Creation Process: Inspired by Henri Matisse's "Drawing with Scissors", the children spent multiple days alternating between painting plain sheets of paper with solid color acrylic paints and a brush to sponge painting various natural shapes with solid colored acrylic paints. Then, the canvas backgrounds were block-painted. The solid colored pieces of paper, created collectively by the students, were cut into Matisse-like shapes, layed out and glued to produce two canvas panels intended to be placed together on a wall.
Additional details: acrylic paints (lemon yellow, magenta, vermilion, cobalt blue, emerald green, and burnt umber), various natural sponges, Mod Podge, scissors, multimedia paper, on two panels 14in x18in each with a total size of 28in x 36in.
