Item Description

Emma's Story:

Adorned with heavy, ornamental garbs, Emma was abused as a processional elephant who spent most of her life walking on concrete surfaces and hot tarmac roads. Emma would be painted with bright colours to make her appear visually appealing. Upon being intercepted by the Forest Department, it was revealed that she walked over 500 km with no valid documentation. Emma was seized and transferred to the Wildlife SOS Elephant Hospital for intensive care and treatment.

Today, Emma loves resting under the shade of her enclosure and comfortably snoozes at any time of the day. Almost 3 months into her healing journey, Emma has now adjusted to life at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center and we are slowly seeing more of her inquisitive personality. She's even made new friends and is now part of Maya and Phoolkali's herd!

Most of the elephants that have come into our care have a bell attached to a rope around their neck. We ceremoniously remove the bells to signify their freedom. The bells are auctioned off to raise money for the care of all the rescued elephants at Wildlife SOS.

This is one of three bells that Emma was wearing before she was rescued. We are offering one of them here exclusively as part of the online auction. We hope this bell helps to spread Emma's story and how with the help of our supporters and the staff and volunteers at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Campus, she was able to know love and compassion.
