Featured wines include:
Tattinger, Brut Prestige Rose (Champagne, France: Retail $84 - 91 points Robert Parker). This mouthwatering rosé shows lovely harmony and a fine, chalky texture, with appealing flavors of raspberry preserves, toast and candied kumquat. Offers an elegant, smoke-tinged finish.
Domaine Maurice Schoech, 2015 “Harmonie R” Alsace White Blend (Alsace, France: Retail $60 - 14.5/20 points LaRevue du Vin de France). Schoech’s “Harmonie R” from legendary Grand Cru Rangen de Thann is about as authentic and rare as it gets, with about 80 specially blended cases produced for the entire world per year. A blend of Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewürztraminer reflected through the lens of volcanic rock. Decant for at least 30 minutes.
Alzinger, 2019 Grüner Veltliner “Ried Mühlpoint” Federspiel (Wachau, Austria: Retail $37 – 91 points Wine Spectator). Crisp, yet very youthful and undeveloped. Features peach and saffron flavors at the core, showing a serious structure, but needs time to come together. A little less flamboyant, but well made. The acidity should give this the potential to age. Best from 2023 through 2030.
Viñedos del Contino, 2015 Rioja Reserva (Rioja Alvesa, Spain: Retail $42 – 96 points James Suckling). This shows so much intense dark berry such as blueberries and blackberries with hints of flowers. Lavender too. Full body, dense tannins with freshness and intensity. So tight and focused. A classic Rioja. Need five to six years of bottle age to come around. Try in 2024.
Caymus Vineyards, 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley, CA: Retail $80 - 93 points Wilfred Wong). This wine shows up with the lasting power of black fruit and licorice. Its layers of persistent and formidable fruit could turn a semi-vegetarian into a carnivore.
