Item Description
Spring is here (thank God), but not too long ago, lonely moons illuminated leafless trees and hardened soil, just as depicted in this piece. Especially in Chicago, the seasonal cycle affects how we live: clothes, transportation, food, mood, activities. Artist Mike Watson painted this piece amidst the harsh conditions of prison life. Just as there is hope of the spring during the winter, Mike holds on to the hope of coming home one day, 28 years after his sentence at the age of 18. Though Mike is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole, he is still hopeful that the winter season of his life may give way to the spring season of parole and life after prison. Mike’s painting reminds us that even in the darkest months of fall and winter, hope remains. When the trees are barren, we see the beauty of the moon more clearly.
About the Artist: MIKE WATSON
Mike is serving Life without Parole, because he was 2 months past his 18th birthday he will not receive any benefits from recent court rulings. Mike is deeply remorseful and would love a chance to show how much he has changed from the 18-year-old boy he was, he is now 46 years old and been in prison for 28 years. Mike enjoys painting and is always glad to be able to donate to Precious Blood
