Item Description
Just below the horizon, on the other side of the hill, something spectacular is taking place. A beautiful blossoming of green, blue, purple and pink rises up above the trees and stretches between the white-speckle stars. Yet, we aren’t seeing whatever it is that begets this beautiful scenery. We only see the edges of it, the outer flares of what is taking place out of view.
With this image, Eric Anderson captures a key tenet of Precious Blood spirituality: hope in the renewal of the world. Though we do not know what it will look like, we have joy in the hope of reconciliation between those at odds, between neighbors, and between the powerful and the powerless. We stand below the crest of the hill, grateful, but anticipating the peace Jesus foretells in the Gospel.
About the Artist: Eric Anderson, was sentenced in 1995 to life prison without parole for a crime he was convicted of when he was 15 years old, in 2017 because of a US Supreme Court ruling Eric was resentenced to 30 years and now has a released date of April 2025. At 15 Eric was automatically transferred into the adult court system. Eric began painting as a way to give back to the community from behind bars. He is self-taught, relying on art books and experimentation to develop his paintings.
Eric has donated his artwork to Precious Blood Ministry, to Restore Justice, and to the National Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Children. When he is released Eric plans to work mentoring young people.
