Artwork Title: My Neighbors in the Sea

Materials: "Hyper Striper" artwork is about 3 ft. wide x 1 ft. tall and made of .5 in. Versatex (PVC). Layered acrylic paint.

Description: For my Hyper Striper, I worked with pastel and inviting colors to illustrate native marine life from my home. As a child, I feared the ocean for what was unknown underneath the sometimes murky water. But the more I grew and closely observed the seashore of Beverly, I found beauty in everything, even the things that once frightened me. Through long walks into the ocean during low tide, and crouching around hermit crabs to watch how they interact with one another, a deep appreciation for the sea grew. By layering acrylic paints in a limited color pallet, I created a piece to show how unique and diverse the ocean really is, and how much there is to appreciate.

About the Artist: Sydney is a multimedia Illustrator from New England working to capture the world through a vibrant lens. Each illustration embodies its own unique conversation starter, ranging between political commentary, body image, environmentalism, emotional matters, and sometimes a toad in stilettos. Through the strong use of value, striking color pallets, and compositions that move your eye in an infinite loop around the page, they captivate the viewer. Sydney works to consistently keep each piece open-ended and available for the start of a long conversation. There is a physicality and life that they bring to each illustration, allowing the viewer to see the input of their hand and the motion of the message. The raw life in Sydney's work inspires them to keep researching different walks of life and makes them hunger for more knowledge of this creative Earth.
