Item Description

An exquisite bottle of 2018 Kistler Vineyards Chardonnay from their Dutton Ranch Vineyard in the Russian River Valley, California.

About Kistler Vineyards: Kistler is an internationally renowned California-based vineyard. Kistler is a single clone chardonnay house...one heritage California selection of Chardonnay planted across fifteen vineyards, from Carneros to Sonoma Valley, to the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast. From those sites we produce eleven vineyard designate Chardonnays. We are wholly dedicated to the ideal of wines of site. It’s an unparalleled approach in the new world.
We harvest our fruit in the cool of the night, stealing every cluster away from the vines under the cover of darkness when the fruit is at its freshest and brightest, and the flavors and acidities are fully intact.
All of our Chardonnays are fermented in our subterranean barrel chais, where the native yeast and various biological patinas rule the ecology. Hand stacked french cooperage that we purchase as wood and have air dry aged in St. Romain where it is crafted into barrels three years later, houses all of the wines. About the 2018 Vintage: 2018 finished, like 2016, as a winemaker's harvest. That most important time of year was shaped by cool conditions that set the tone for the final month of ripening. Autumn was preceded by a mild summer season marked by fewer than normal high heat days. 2018 brought good crops, which we thinned vigorously to allow for full development of the clusters. Moderate temperatures and conditions as harvest approached allowed for a calm tempo and long, slow development of fruit on the vine, with the bulk of our picking decisions spanning closer to four weeks as opposed to the normal two. All of those decisions were primarily based on acidity levels in the fruit, which due to the weather, had ample time to gently soften, all the while increasing and intensifying the flavors in the fruit. Fermentations in both varietals were both healthy and succinct.

Tasting Notes for the 2018 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay: Green-tinged, pale yellow. Focused and piercing aromas of just ripe green orchard fruit, lime, roasted hazelnuts, and hints of struck flint. Penetrating and vivacious, with ample body, lively acids and a strong wet rock like character that give this wine spine and tension. Distinctively Dutton.
