Item Description

Amado Pena, jr. has been named an official Artisan of the Pascua Yaqui tribe and his artwork is displayed in galleries around the country. His art celebrates the strength of a people who meet the harsh realities of life in an uncompromising land, and his work is a tribute to the Native Americans who survive by living in harmony with an adversarial, untamed environment.

This framed print by Pena is entitled "After Maria - San Ildefonso." It was painted in tribute to Maria Martinez, the matriarch of San Ildefonso Pueblo located northwest of Santa Fe.  She was responsible for bringing the world's attention to her pueblo people through her world-famous pottery. She is most noted for her black on black pottery, which is held by one of the women in the scene.  San Ildefonso can be seen through the window in this painting. The frame measures 29" x 31.5," the matted print 24" x 18.5."
