Orleans’ legendary lobsterman, Harry Hunt, commissioned this 50’ mahogany lobster boat and named it after his wife the “Gertrude H”was Built in North Carolina in 1980. Once delivered and fished off Cape Cod the boat was deemed too tender for the areas harsh conditions. So Captain Hunt leased it to a young fisherman friend, who promptly raised the floorboards and used the boat to “fish a bit” but mostly to run marijuana up and down the New England coastline. Before long, federal officials seized control of the vessel, and it remained on the hard in Chatham and Orleans for more than 25 years, until Hunt’s son now living in Panama sold it to the artist.
