Item Description

You are bidding on a 1972 Chateau Lafite-Rothschil - perfect for your wine collection!

1972 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild

This 49 year old First Growth French Bordeaux would make a great addition to any fine wine collection. Vintner, shipping and import labels are all present. This bottle was purchased at a private estate sale in 2000 and has been properly stored with the current owner since then. Due to the age of this bottle, the quality of the wine cannot be guaranteed.

Château Lafite-Rothschild has been seen as the most aristocratic of the first growths. Purchased by Baron James de Rothschild in 1868, the land's wine history goes back to Roman times, with stops on the best tables of judges of the Middle Ages, King Louis XV, Madame de Pompadour and the president of the local parliament until he was guillotined during the French Revolution. The property passed from the state to Dutch and British owners before settling with the Rothschilds. The wine is complex and refined; in great vintages, it is also one of the most long-lived wines in the world. Lafite was one of four wine-producing châteaux of Bordeaux originally awarded First Growth status in the 1855 Classification, which was based on the prices and wine quality at that time. In the 1855 classification, the best of the best wines were assigned the highest rank of Premier Cru; only four wines, Château Latour, Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux and Château Haut-Brion were deemed worthy. Since then, Chateau Lafite-Rothschild has been a consistent producer of one of the world's most expensive red wines.
