Global Projection of "I Love You"

An Indigenous cultural art form. Gayle ran into the materials of Oceana while traveling. She calls it a brush and ink drawing - using Tapa cloth which is derived from the inner bark of mulberry trees. Traditionally this bark is pounded flat by the women in Tonga and used for blankets and other items. The brown and white triangles on the edges of the piece were pre-painted scraps of tonga paper that Gayle had been given by a Tongan family when visiting her son in Hawaii. She also uses weavings of camel hair and silk which were collected from Iraq and Japan - bringing materials of multiple countries together. Her idea for the piece developed when the word "Globalization" was introduced in the media. The symbols painted throughout the piece represent global descriptions of "I Love You." Gayle is still using Tonga paper to do her artwork, which she can now be given by the single Tongan family living in Hawaii. They tell her she is the only one worth sharing the paper with because they know she will use it appropriately to educate people about the tongan culture through her amazing artwork.

The art piece can be hung vertical or horizontal. Approx 36" by 62" unframed.
