Item Description
Calstar Cellars began in 2001 with the goal of producing exclusive, hand-crafted wines with a food-friendly focus. In order to achieve this goal, Proprietor and Winemaker Rick Davis selects the highest quality fruit from award winning vineyards with site-specific character in Northern California.
Calstar Chardonnay has a textural richness and rounded palate--thank barrel-fermentation for that--matched with succulent ripe fruit flavors, and toasty patisserie notes. True to form with Davis' wines, consistent high quality and site expressiveness are givens of course, and that they are so food-friendly.
Winemaker's notes on the 2014 vintage: Pale golden straw in color with very focused and fresh aromas of lemon cream, kiwi, kefir lime and Gravenstein apple. An underpinning of sweet shortcake and vanilla adds complexity and richness. The palette follows the nose: crisp, precise citrus and green apple bring brightness while secondary flavors of toasted shortbread, sweet cream and subtle spice bring the wine into balance.
The finish is long and lingering, drawn through the palette by refreshing acidity and wet rock minerality.
