Item Description
The successful bidder for this item will receive copies of Pamela Ayo Yetunde's Buddhist-Christian Dialogue, U.S. Law, and Womanist Theology for Transgender Spiritual Care and also Object Relations, Buddhism, and Relationality in Womanist Practical Theology.
The Frederick J. Streng Award-winning Buddhist-Christian Dialogue, U.S. Law, and Womanist Theology for Transgender Spiritual Care was written with hospital spiritual care providers in mind but helps all readers understand how anti-trans discriminatory policies, combined with strict interpretations of U.S. constitutional principles, combine to effectuate damaging outcomes for U.S. citizens who are transgender while promoting the religious freedom to discriminate against others. It uses surveys and case studies to explore opportunities for chaplains and doctors to work together and offers a re-imagining of The Parable of the Good Samaritan.
Object Relations, Buddhism, and Relationality in Womanist Practical Theology establishes how Buddhism in the Insight Meditation tradition supports "remarkable relational resilience" for women who are of African descent and same-sex loving, yet living in a society that often invalidates women, African-Americans, LGBTQ people, and non-Christians. Pamela Ayo Yetunde explores the psycho-sexual experiences of African-American Buddhist lesbians, and shows that their abilities to be in healthy relationships are made possible through their Buddhist practices and communities, even in the face of invisibilizing forces related to racial, gender, sexuality, and religious discrimination and oppression.
Pamela Ayo Yetunde, J.D., Th.D. is a Community Dharma Leader in the Insight Meditation tradition. She teaches pastoral care and counseling and has taught at University of the West, United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, and Upaya Institute and Zen Center. Ayo has written for Buddhadharma, Lion?s Roar, Religions, and Buddhist-Christian Studies and is an associate editor with Lion's Roar.
