Item Description

There are few Broadway "legends" left these days, but if any actor can be called a legend it's Joel Grey. With a career spanning nearly 80 years, 15 Broadway shows and countless movie and television appearances, Grey's name is synonymous with show business.

This sketch by legendary artist Al Hirschfeld features Grey in his signature role, the Master of Ceremonies in Kander & Ebb's Cabaret. Grey first opened the show at the Broadhurst Theatre on November 20, 1966, and won not only critical and audience praise but the 1967 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. Grey reprised his role in the 1972 film version, again taking home the top acting award, making him one of only 10 actors to win a Tony and an Oscar for the same role.

Hirschfeld's drawing of the Master of Ceremonies was first published in The New York Times' Friday theater column on February 12, 1988, after Grey opened the 1987 Broadway revival of Cabaret at the Imperial Theatre.

This giclée, part of an extremely limited edition, is printed on 15" x 18" hot press paper and has been generously autographed by Grey. The edition is numbered, includes the official Hirschfeld Foundation embossed seal and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity directly from the Al Hirschfeld Foundation.
