Item Description

Come Back to the Five & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean marked the Broadway debut of music icon Cher. The 1982 play revolves around a James Dean fan club, the Disciples of James Dean, who meet at a Woolworth's five-and-dime store in Texas. Cher's role of the waitress Sissy had originally been considered for Shelley Duvall, but after finding out Cher was in New York at the time, director Robert Altman (who also directed the film version later that year) encouraged her to read for the part. The first preview of the play took place on February 8, 1982, which would have been James Dean's 51st birthday. Come Back to the Five & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean ran at the Martin Beck Theatre (now the Al Hirschfeld Theatre) for 52 performances.

This sketch by legendary artist Al Hirschfeld of the incomparable Cher was first published in The New York Times' Friday theater column on February 14, 1982.

This giclée, part of an extremely limited edition, is printed on 15" x 18" hot press paper and has been generously autographed by Cher. The edition is numbered, includes the official Hirschfeld Foundation embossed seal and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity directly from the Al Hirschfeld Foundation.
