Item Description

"There are worse things than staring at the water as you're posing for a picture being painted by your lover in the middle of the summer on an island in the river on a Sunday!"

Those are the famous lyrics sung by the incomparable Bernadette Peters in the opening scene of Stephen Sondheim's classic musical Sunday in the Park with George. The show premiered at the Booth Theatre in 1984 and earned 10 Tony Award nominations, including nods for its two leading actors, Peters and Mandy Patinkin.

This sketch by legendary artist Al Hirschfeld features Patinkin as George, Peters as Dot and the other members of the original cast. It first appeared in the The New York Times on Sunday, April 29, 1984.

This giclée, part of an extremely limited edition, is printed on 15" x 18" hot press paper and has been generously autographed by Patinkin and Peters. The edition is numbered, includes the official Hirschfeld Foundation embossed seal and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity directly from the Al Hirschfeld Foundation.
