Item Description
Bette Midler’s 1979 hit song "The Rose" was personally chosen by Midler to be a part of the soundtrack to the film of the same name, though it was not actually written for the film. Composer Amanda McBroom wrote the song in 45 minutes two years earlier when her manager told her she should write some "Bob Seger-type tunes" in order to expedite a record deal. The single reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, staying there for five weeks. "The Rose" earned Midler a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and McBroom took home the 1979 Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
This musical phrase was handwritten by composer Amanda McBroom and signed by McBroom and Midler. "Some say love, it is a winning bid."
