Item Description
ADK member Cara Benson is orffering a 2 hours writing consultation, a value of $250.
I work with individuals on fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. For publication, performance, video, thesis, book proposal, querying agents, MFA application. I can help you sort through what could be your best genre or medium. I do close reads, overviews, and some combination as needed. We can do a one-time consult, a series of consults, or a longer term mentorship. My reports can include reading and viewing lists, specific writing tasks, and suggestions for revision and for generating new material. Whether you’re just starting, in the middle of a project, or ready for a final read, feedback from a practiced writer and performer can make a huge difference in the work. It has in mine.

About Cara:
"My stories and poems have been published in The New York Times, Boston Review, Best American Poetry, The Brooklyn Rail, Fence, Hobart, and many other wonderful venues. My first book, (made), is a hybrid micro prose/poem collection and was published by the Toronto indie publisher Book*hug. I’m at work on my second book, an autobiographical novel set in the time of late capitalism and climate change. I have received a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship and a bpNichol Prize.
In addition to my own writing, I’ve been teaching and editing other writers for years. I’m a Manuscript Consultant and Instructor for Grub Street and lead workshops for Writing Workshops. I’ve been a Visiting Writer for The New York State Writers Institute, Rhode Island School of Design, Evergreen College, Kelly Writers House at PENN, Stonecoast MFA, and Toronto New School of Writing. I have an MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College, a BA in Communications from Skidmore College, and a bunch of unclaimed credits in Film and Television at NYU."
