Item Description
Enjoy this beautifully crafted wedding vase. Signed and made by Donna Aragon Castillo, from the Pueblo of Isleta on the Navajo Reservation. The vase is black on black pottery that is hand painted and then fired three times at 2000 degrees.
This black on black pottery Wedding Vase from Isleta Pueblo in New Mexico is hand-built with native clay, stone burnished slip, reverse painted, pit fired to black. This clay turns black in a reduction firing, famous in New Mexico. Art pottery, not for water. The wedding vase, with it's two openings, symbolizes the union of two becoming one.
Item Special Note
Established in the 1300's, the Southern Tiwa-speaking community of Isleta is, and long has been, one of the largest Eastern Pueblo towns in New Mexico.
