Item Description

Terra Summary:

The Terra Project's goal is to connect people to nature while creating a new conservation tool to help preserve wildlife on a global scale.
We’re doing this by creating Terra devices: small, weatherproof audio and radio receivers that you put in your yard.  These devices give you a number of ways to listen and learn about the birds and animals nearby, while collecting data for a massive conservation database.

Terra Details:

Terra is a small, weatherproof device that can be placed in your yard, deck or exterior wall.  It contains a set of microphones as well as a radio receiver for radio-tagged birds.  Using the included app, Terra will stream the sounds of your yard into your home.  In addition, it will help identify the birds it hears, and give you more information on those birds and their activity.  Terra will also notify you of any radio-tagged birds that pass nearby, and let you know about their histories.  If you prefer to listen to something else, Terra connects to remote locations around the globe--rainforests, watering holes, beaches, waterfalls—to immerse you in a new sonic environment.  Finally, Terra completes its monitoring of the outdoors with weather, moisture and flood accessories that give you the information you need to see the whole picture of what’s happening around you.

On a larger scale, the identifications that Terra makes will be uploaded to a central server, which will help create a massive new database to track bird and animal migration across the globe.  We will be able to track migration in near real-time for the first time in history, and provide information to researchers and conservationists that will improve our ability to effectively protect wildlife and the habitats in which they live.
