STORY:
These tongs are named for a strong woman who as a widow shouldered the burden of providing for a family of twelve, including grown brothers who could not find work. She used to beg outside the mosque, especially at Ramadan. But with Village of Love micro-loans and training, she has built a thriving spice and fabric business. Shilye has passed her feminist values on to her daughters (one now pursues a traditionally male career as a plumber) and she berates any man who does not respect his wife who brings in money!
