Item Description
Participants meet at the entrance to Antelope Island State Park at 8:00 a.m.
Tuesday, April 5, 2022 - 8:00 am-1:00 pm
We drive across the 7-mile causeway stopping several times to look for birds foraging on either side of the roadway. The causeway is a great place to look for large flocks of birds including ducks, grebes, plovers, shorebirds, gulls and crows. Once on the island, we travel south to the historic Fielding Garr Ranch. The ranch is an oasis for migrating and resident birds. The best way to see the birds is to walk around the spring and wooded area for about an hour. Swallows, wrens, finches, sparrows and warblers are often spotted in the trees and drinking in the spring. Traveling back north towards the park visitor center, we stop to look for owls, chukar and more song birds. We end the tour with a picnic lunch (you provide the sandwich, we provide the soft drinks) and drive back across to the causeway to end where we started.
Participants provide their own binoculars, the trip leader will have a scope for viewing birds at a distance. Dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.
Limit: 10 people
