Item Description

FOUR Bottles of Outrageous Reds!
- Rutherford Ranch 2017 Napa Valley Reserve Petit Verdot
- PlumpJack 2018 Napa Valley Merlot
- Fleury Estate Winery 2019 Napa Valley The F in Red Blend
- Sleeping Giant 2019 Dearden Vineyard, Carneros Pinot Noir

Rutherford Ranch 2017 Napa Valley Reserve Petit Verdot, 1 Bottle: Initial notes of dark plum and cherry, opening up to cinnamon, roasted coffee, and spice. Ripe blackberry fruit with a hint of sage and rosemary. Elegantly structured with rich yet soft tannins finishing with warm oak notes.

We recommend enjoying this Petit Verdot with rich foods, such as beef stew or wild game. This robust wine also pairs well with a roasted rack of lamb and well-aged cheeses.

Petit Verdot is prized for its rich color and highly structured tannins, making it simultaneously elegant and bold. The source for this Petit Verdot is our Abela vineyard, which is adjacent to the winery. Our winemaking team also included a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon to help polish the mid-palate of this wine.

PlumpJack 2018 Napa Valley Merlot, 1 Bottle: Our Merlot vineyard is in the Oak Knoll region of the Napa Valley, and is nestled up to the Mayacamas Mountain Range on the west side of the valley. The mild climate and alluvial soils in this region lend this wine great balance and structure. The mild temperatures allow these grapes to develop bright aromatics and flavors, along with a beautiful natural acidity and elegance. The alluvial soils bring darker fruits to the nose and palate, and give this wine its structure and concentration. The 2018 vintage has a beautiful and complex nose – black cherry, boysenberry jam, plum, and fresh-cut flowers come through first, then cardamom, nutmeg, and a touch of cocoa and vanilla enter giving the nose depth and intrigue. The palate too has great depth and complexity – flavors of red cherries, muddled berries, and dried herbs, with a creamy texture and silky tannin complemented by a fresh, vibrant acidity.

Fleury Estate Winery 2019 Napa Valley "The F in Red" Proprietary Red Wine Blend, 1 Bottle: Deep ruby color, with notes of black cherry, blueberries and rosemary. Young, yet complex, and full bodied.

Sleeping Giant 2019 Dearden Vineyard, Carneros Pinot Noir, 1 Bottle: This delicious Pinot noir is loaded with Bing cherry, pomegranate, strawberry preserves, root beer, toasty oak and cinnamon stick aromas It is the perfect pairing with seared ahi tuna, beef carpaccio and pheasant or Muscovy duck. Sleeping Giant Pinot noir wine will peak in complexity of fruit and bouquet within the next five years and evolve more bottle bouquet after that. Enjoy with family and friends and all occasions both grand and humble.

Rutherford Ranch: Our winemaking team crafts elegant, varietally-true wines with fruit from the two estate vineyards and select vineyards sites throughout the valley. The cooler sites yield grapes with bright, rich flavors and tropical fruit characteristics. Warmer sites within the valley produce grapes with deep, intense flavors. Together they provide the winemakers with an unequaled palate of flavor and character and quality.

Our ecological efforts include allowing areas of land to remain in a natural, pristine state to support indigenous plants and wildlife. In the vineyards, we minimize the use of synthetic substances by substituting or augmenting them with age-old methods such as natural predation to help control insects and animals that are harmful to the vines. These practices help to limit environmental impact, increase soil and plant health and vigor, and result in higher quality fruit.

Natural resources and energy conservation are served by water reclamation and reuse. Solar power contributes to lower energy use, improved air quality, and a smaller carbon footprint. (One of our family's refrigeration systems, assembled and installed in-house, consists of nearly 5000 solar panels that produce close to one million watts of electrical power.)

As active members of the Central Coast Vineyard Team, we are establishing and defining sustainable guidelines and educating the larger grower community to help keep the land productive, profitable, and vital for many years. In many instances, we are sharing farming practices that our family has employed for three generations.

We continuously seek to explore opportunities beyond the vineyard. We partner with producers of our packaging materials to increase the use of recycled, recyclable, and biodegradable materials in the manufacture of glass, closures, and labels.

Sustainable Practices Include:

  • Water and energy conservation
  • Pollution prevention
  • Cover crops to enrich soil, prevent erosion, aid in water conservation and provide habitat for beneficial insects
Providing natural, undeveloped corridors for animal life
  • Natural predation (bird and insect) to replace chemical herbicides and pesticides
  • Ongoing education within the organization and community to improve and refine our efforts
  • Our family has taken an active and leading role in this organization from its inception, undertaking the Wine Institute’s Sustainable Winegrowing Certification process for our Napa Vineyards.

PlumpJack: In 1995, Gavin Newsom and Gordon Getty stumbled upon a magical piece of land in the heart of Oakville, Napa Valley. Inspired by one of Shakespeare’s most memorable characters, Sir John “PlumpJack” Falstaff, whose fun-loving, down-to-earth disposition is only rivaled by his fierce loyalty to Prince Henry V, with whom he shares more than a few goblets of sack (wine) at the local tavern. We pay allegiance to our world-class vineyard by crafting high-quality wines that honor the land, and we celebrate the convivial spirit of our namesake with their inviting, approachable style.

"The grapes take center stage in every one of our wines. It's our mission to make sure the very best goes into every barrel, bottle and glass of our wines." -Brian Fleury

Fleury Estate Winery is a family owned winery in the heart of the Napa Valley. Brian Fleury made the decision to turn his skills as a successful Bay Area businessman to the wine business purchasing the estate in Rutherford in 2000. Brian has always had a passion for fine wines and specifically Cabernet Sauvignon from the Napa Valley. So, when he was ready for a change Brian decided to turn to a career in winemaking he brought his entire family with him to the Napa Valley. Upon arrival in Napa, Brian set about learning how to make wine from various mentors and friends in the valley. The Fleury Estate Winery is the result of years of passion, hard work and dedication that Brian and Claudia love to share with their guests.

The “Sleeping Giant” is the section of mountain range of the Mayacamas that runs from the Northern edge of Mount Veeder in Napa almost up to the Yountville Veterans Home. It becomes the focal point of conversation as the sun sets on the Western hills. Chris Dearden has lived and produced fine wines in Napa Valley since 1986. A trained enologist from UC Davis, with an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, Dearden has pursued single vineyard wines for Shibumi Knoll, V Madrone and Benessere in St. Helena and Chanticleer in Yountville. His Cabernets, Chardonnays and Italian varietals have garnered both critical and consumer acclaim since 1995.
