To take Great Lake memories, thoughts and feelings to canvas and spontaneously create, compelling. An emotional cue from Lake Huron summer(s), the sand and sky, easy beginnings to paint. Add waves, landforms that undulate and change. Dunes with rhizomes that connect under their grasses, perfect thoughts as I layer up...
Weather, climate, Earth's ecosystems rooted in the Universe, here now, grass roots offering protection, the fragile stability of the beach in my mind. Erosion of land form with sun, shade, cool and heat all collected, landing abstractly on canvas. Don't tell anyone, they might think I'm crazy. After all it's just my day the beach.

About The Artist 

Jill Birks paints in her home studio in Ancaster, Ontario. Literature studies at Dalhousie University were completed at the University of Toronto. Earliest memories include playing with a variety of materials in the art studios of the Saidye Bronfman Center in Montreal before beginning Kindergarten. Life drawing studio time at Artists' 25, was followed by classes at the Ontario College of Art & Design. She apprenticed and then worked as a scenic painter at Bratton Designs, as a muralist with Brian Lorimer and Bill Wrigley's Glow Studio. Having painted commissioned work for many years, her work resides in casinos, hotels, restaurants and event spaces ie: Cirque du Soleil, Roger's Center and the Toronto Zoo. Her art also adorns the interiors of numerous homes. Jill now enjoys creating spontaneous abstracts on canvas, with grounded reflections of summers at Lake Huron, to a deeper inspiration of the earth's natural power and wonder. Onto endless possibilities, while humankind continues our exploration and study of the universe...
