Item Description

A family arriving in the Bay Area as refugees has often experienced unthinkable war and trauma and brings little or nothing with them to establish a new life here.  These refugee families have escaped from Afghanistan as the Taliban took over the government in August 2021 and have endured great difficulties in their journey here.  In this new place and these new circumstances, they have been supported through transitional housing.  As they begin to find employment and gain some independence, they are slowly moving out of transitional housing into rented spaces, but are not able to bring anything with them.  They start again with nothing.  Having basic cooking equipment allows the family to move forward a bit and begin the process of adjustment and healing.

All Good Living Foundation is currently working to support these refugee families who have resettled here in Alameda and are in need of cooking supplies. Each family brings its own story and its own richness to our community, and with these donations, we can support them as they navigate this new chapter of their lives.

Catch the Wave-Tupperware is putting together a selection of Tupperware Brand Products, including Chef Series I Cookware, Cooking Utensils, Microwave Cookware, Tableware, Storage and on the Go.  Selection will be customized by Denise Lum to each family according to their needs.

Item Special Note

The father in the family used to work as a driver for US forces in Afghanistan. He had applied for the Special Immigration Visa, granted to those who work for or on behalf of the US government. After a year of waiting, he finally got Visas for his entire family including his young wife, 10-year old son, 7-year old daughter and 5-year old daughter.  They were about to fly to IOM on August 24th 2021 until the fall of the Government to the Taliban on August 15th Everything changed for the family.

Coming from a province that has always been in resistance against the Taliban, the father was in high risk of being taken away.  He was desperate to get his family out.  The mother in the family would wake the kids up every morning, taking them to the airport in the chaos and trying to get past thousands of people to get to the plane to be evacuated. After a week behind he airport’s closed gate, they were lucky enough to be evacuated right before the suicide bomb blast happened.

The family made it safely to the US. Although they were able to get out with only the clothes they were wearing, the family is staying positive and are really working to make a life for their kids here. Within 4 months, the father has already gotten his driver’s license, has a car, and is working both as a Door Dash driver and Security guard. The mother goes to Adult school, recently got her permit and is working to get her driving license.
