Browning Farmhouse by the Sea Familiy Vacation

6 Beds | 5.5 Baths | 12 Guests | 1 Pet

362 MATUNUCK BEACH ROAD

The old Browning Farm House has been an icon Matunuck since 1890. The current owners are the first since the original family, and it has been renovated to keep the original charm, while adding all modern amenities of new electrical, plumbing, kitchen and baths, along with complete air conditioning. The setting is truly pastoral with farm fields on the side and back of the property, which by mid summer will be in full growth. A large flat yard is great for family games, large enough to play ball, and the garage has ping pong and Foosball tables. In addition, please drive or walk down the dirt road to the property end at Potter Pond where two boat slips allow you to launch your kayaks and paddleboards, as well as take a refreshing swim. Carpenter's farm stand is just a stone's throw away, with local vegetables from our field and other local farms, as well as plants, fruits, great baked pies and assorted treats. The Seaview market about 1/2 mile away has all the essentials, including good meats and deli counter. The town beach is a good walk, or short drive down the road, and several State Beaches, the closest at East Matunuck, are large and truly beautiful. There are good secondary roads to bicycle and the William C. O'Neill bike path, running 6.8 miles from the Kingstown train station (free parking) to near the ocean at Narragansett. The nearby Trustrom Pond National Wildlife Refuge is a destination for birders and those who enjoy bucolic walks. A week in Matunuck is not complete without an outing to the Theatre by the Sea, one of the original "summer stock" theatres having opened in the 1930s, now on the National Historic Register, and offering Broadway quality productions, under two miles from the Farm House. In addition to the main production the Theatre offers children's program on certain dates, all found on their website. If you venture out of Matunuck, in the surrounding area are just about all the shopping, dining and exploring opportunities you need. The town of Wakefield, seven miles away, has all the full service shopping you would need, and drives to Narragansett and Point Judith to the East and Watch Hill and Westerly to the West provide additional opportunities for shopping, dining, beaching and exploring. Once you discover the quiet charm of Matunuck, well located to both relax and to easily explore all that Southern Rhode Island has to offer, you won't bother with the congestion of Newport, the Cape or the Hamptons again.
