ABOUT THE ARTIST: Barry Hammaker is an accomplished artist in a wide variety of subject matters. A life-long resident of Dillsburg PA, he attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia and graduated from the York Academy of Arts in 1971. After graduation, he was hired as a creative director for a local advertising agency. His many creative illustrations have appeared on tins, packages and in brochures. He has also designed many company and community logos, packages, labels and brochures for local businesses and fund raising organizations. His successful career as a commercial artist lasted for more than 35 years. He retired in 2007 and now enjoys painting for himself.
Barry's early work consisted mainly of detailed pen and ink illustrations of homes and historical buildings in York County. His pen and ink illustrations have appeared on pewter plates, stationary, note cards, mugs and houses cut from wood.
In 1996, Barry entered one of his early duck paintings in the Pennsylvania Duck Stamp Contest. His painting of Barnacle Geese finished in the final round. Then in 2002 and 2012, his illustration of Canadian Geese finished Fifth in the state competition.
Barry feels fortunate to have the career he has had and the great support of family and friends over the years. He hopes his work brings a sense of joy to people who see his art.
