Item Description
This white milk glass dish with a raised grape design is a vintage classic. Made by the Westmoreland Glass Company, the piece measures 6 1/2" x 4" x 2 1/2".
The Westmoreland Glass Company was founded in 1889 when a group of men purchased the Specialty Glass Company located in East Liverpool, Ohio and moved it to Grapeville,Pennsylvania. Westmoreland's main production was pressed glass tableware lines, mustard jars, and candy containers. Westmoreland had its own mustard factory and tin shop on the property grounds of the factory. In 1921, changes in ownership and organization took place and the business was renamed Westmoreland Glass Company. The company began to make high-quality hand-decorated glass from the 1920s through the 1930s, some of which was exhibited at the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This was phased out in the 1940's and milk glass began to be primarily produced and was made through the 1970's.
