Item Description
Raw honey products from the Island Bee Company, owned by Tim Colon and Tricia Sirakovsky. All jars of honey are labeled by the island town it was harvested from.
Founded in 1999, their small family apiary not only sells honey and bee-based products to the public, it also provides pollination services, locally raised queens, and full-service hive management. They pride themselves on their honey being pure and raw as they maintain a chemical free apiary. They even offer recycling of empty jars you can drop off seasonally at the West Tisbury Farmer's Market.
In addition to its use as a natural sweetener, honey is used as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial agent. People commonly use honey orally to treat coughs and topically to treat burns and promote wound healing. Honey is made up of 70-80% sugar.; the rest is water, minerals, and protein.
Some say honey can improve both short-term and long-term memory - what's not to love about raw honey?!!
The first record of beekeeping dates back to 2400 B.C. in Cairo.
