Item Description
A one-of-a-kind collectible!
In the mid-90s, author Steven Piziks found himself at an mass autograph session with his friends Sarah Zettel and Connie Willis. Because the con was local and everyone knew Sarah and Steven, no one wanted their autographs while the line for Connie went out the door. Steven had just bought a wooden train in the dealers room and out of boredom, he and Sarah said, "We're not signing books, but we could sign the train." So they did. And then Connie said, "I'll sign it," and she did. And it became a thing.
Steven took the autograph train to various cons around the country and collected autographs, until he stopped going to cons in the early 2000s. The train has autographs from:
- Neil Gaiman (including a Sandman doodle)
- Connie Willis
- Melinda Snodgrass
- Peter Straub
- Tess Gerritsen
- Eileen Gunn
- Nancy Jane More
- Melissa Scott
- Hall Clement
- Anne Bishop
- Tobias Buckell
- David B. Coe
- Janni Lee Simner
- Holly Black
- Ellen Klages
- SM Stirling
- Jan Stirling
- Sarah Hoyt
- David Drake
- Gardner Dozois
- Robert Kowall
- Sarah Zettel
- Steven Piziks
Thank you to Steven Piziks for donating this unique piece of genre history.
