Item Description
The large pieces of "tile" are handmade concrete slabs that are textured, filled, and stained. The cracks are filled with Moroccan earthenware tile. Mounted on painted, cradled 1/4" maple ply. 10"x10".
From the artist, Lynn Doninhe:
I am inspired by the beauty that is found in imperfection -- cracked sidewalks, surfaces worn away by time, things that have been mended and patched. My work incorporates the gorgeous glazes of Moroccan tile alongside pieces of found stone, bits of glass, and new materials that I create from tinted and textured concrete.
Each mosaic tells a story for me, one that develops as it goes along. I create metaphors for life as I work through my process and see what fits together and what doesn’t, what moves the story forward and what causes a shift in my thinking. I am fascinated by the unexpected change that just one piece of stone can create. When I am finished, though, my story ends and yours begins. It is no longer important why I chose a particular color or placed one stone next to another. What is important now are the connections that you can make with your own experiences and the personal stories that emerge from those.
