Item Description
Want to get out and ramble along the Rhode Island coast? The lucky bidder and up to five friends will go for a walk at your choice of ONE of the following:
(1) Touisset Marsh Wildlife Refuge & the “5 Ecological Piers” sculpture installation in Warren, RI (https://asri.org/5-piers-touisset.html [nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com])
(2) Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve at Prudence Island (http://nbnerr.org/ [nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com])
(3) Napatree Point in Watch Hill, Westerly, RI (https://thewatchhillconservancy.org/napatree/about-napatree/ [nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com]).
Teresa Crean, former Rhode Island Sea Grant Extension Specialist and Jen West, Coastal Training Program Coordinator for NBNERR, will be your guides. The walk will last about two hours (with breaks) and may cover a bit of rugged terrain, but the walk is not expected to be strenuous.
Item Special Note
Jennifer West has been the Coastal Training Program Coordinator with the Narragansett Bay Research Reserve since 2005. In this position, she develops and delivers training events and technical assistance programs for municipal officials and other decision-maker audiences on topics related to water quality, habitat protection, and climate change. Prior to her position at the Reserve, Jennifer worked as an environmental educator for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, was a Marine and Environmental Teaching Fellow through URI’s Office of Marine Programs, and held positions at RI Sea Grant/URI Coastal Resources Center and the Audubon Society of Rhode Island. Jen currently serves on the Board of the RI Environmental Education Association.
Teresa Crean currently works as the Planning Director for the town of Barrington, RI, focusing on resiliency initiatives in addition to the land development responsibilities of the planning department. Prior to joining Town staff, she worked for 14 years at the University of Rhode Island's Coastal Resources Center and RI Sea Grant as an extension and outreach specialist focused on coastal communities and resilience/adaptation to coastal hazards. Teresa served on the Board of the Roger Williams Park Zoo from 2018-2021.
In their free time, both Jen & Teresa enjoy walking along the coast and exploring Rhode Island’s natural areas!
