Item Description
"Banks Cod" by Bill Frost
Medium: Pine
Size: 19" x 8"
Artist Statement:
Last year when codfish blanks were distributed to local artists, my wife Deborah Ekholm Frost decided that she wanted to paint a whimsical cod. She asked me if I could write a codfish limerick for her. Anyone who knows me understands that from birth I have been afflicted with both a fondness for alliteration and what a very good friend terms "rhyming sickness " so....could I write a limerick. Unfortunately, what I couldn't do was write one right this second. By the time my verse was ready for publication, Deb had found a poem, "The Codfish Ball" and that cod had sailed (I also mix a good metaphor). We agreed that she would use the limerick this year. That didn't happen and now I was stuck with a verse but no fish. There was only one thing to do. While the vision is my own, I am hugely indebted to Patti O'Hare Williams for transforming my vision into art. Also I owe thanks for my brother Jim for lessons in computer assisted drawing and for the use of his CNC router table. Apparently it takes a village to raise a codfish and this village idiot is both pleased and grateful.
Artist Biography:
