Item Description
"Caribbean Cod" by Lisa Durkee
Medium: Epoxy resin with metallic pigment & beach sand
Size: 19" x 8"
Artist Statement:
Atlantic beach sand has been mixed with acrylic paint and epoxy resin to create the base of this Caribbean Cod. Once the base layer was dry, additional layers of resin in tropical blues & turquoise were poured and blended with a heat gun. Finally, white pigment paste was used to create crashing waves. The pigment paste reacts in the resin to form cells and lacing across the surface. Look closely and you will see subtle glints of metallic gold dancing just under the waves.
Artist Biography:
Lisa Durkee is a life-long resident of the North Shore. Lisa received her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from SouthEastern Mass University (now The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth). Lisa began working with epoxy resin three years ago and started her business, The Sea By Me LLC shortly after. Lisa uses resin to create beautiful ocean scapes on functional homegoods items and wall art. While resin sometimes has a mind of its own, Lisa is delighted to see the perfect wave crash across the surface of a board. The best part, no two pours are ever the same!
