Item Description
"Waterfront View 2022" by Maura O'Connor
Medium: Acrylic Ink
Size: 19" x 8"
Artist Statement:
My inspiration for the Cod this year was a classic view of Marblehead, using the theme as a way to experiment more with my watercolor / ink technique on a wooden surface. It was a joy Interpreting the bold colors of the coastal houses stacked endlessly atop one another like the rainbow scales of a fish interlocking. This painting technique experiments with adding color first and then drawing atop the color blocking with ink. The most interesting parts to me are where the ink and color don't quite match up, revealing this process to the viewer.
Artist Biography:
Maura O'connor is a multimedia artist and illustrator. After living 10 years on the North Shore of Massachusetts she has collected a large portfolio of Coastal New England inspired watercolors and regards Marblehead, Massachusetts as her second home. Her Husband Kyle was born and raised in Marblehead. They return to visit family and friends often and always make time for painting and drawing in the old town. Now located in Central New York, when she's not working on art you can usually find her in her garden and greenhouse listening to folk music and attempting to make friends with frogs and snails, playing Banjo (poorly), or watching historical dramas with her two cats, Fig and Lemon. Her work has been featured on HGTV's "Farmhouse Fixer," College Humor, and The Boston Globe. She is also a published Children's Book Illustrator, "Nonna, What is St. Peter's Fiesta"
