Item Description
For those interested in learning more about Silicon Valley's history (or providing a distraction for houseguests), this package is for you!
It includes 4 passes to the Computer History Museum and "The Evolution of Silicon Valley - A History in Pictures" by Mary Wadden.
The Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California, is the world's largest museum dedicated to computers and computing devices. Spend the afternoon in an immersive journey into the origins of computing as you learn about the ongoing impact of technology in our lives. Explore 2,000 years of computing, from ancient times to today's Internet. Enjoy 1,000+ unique artifacts, hundreds of videos, docent-led tours, and vintage technology demonstrations. The Museum also has a cafe, gift store and plenty of parking.
The beautiful 300-page coffee table book is filled with 500+ high-resolution photographs as it traces the evolution of Silicon Valley from a bucolic farming community into the global leader of technology and innovation. It reads more like a glossy magazine than a history book-transforming a potentially dry topic into something fun and entertaining. The first half presents a journey through the Gold Rush and the region's rich agricultural roots, making it easy to picture what life in the Bay Area was like 100 years ago with fun factoids and sleek photographs. The second portion focuses on the modern-day gold rush of today's high-tech Silicon Valley and addresses the question "Why did the invention of the microchip, personal computer and Internet all occur in this once sleepy farming community?"
